On September 27 I searched Google Maps for catering the way someone planning an event in Omaha would, from the middle of the metro and four points around it: 20 searches, listings, most of them restaurants, trucks and halls that also cater. Then I read what a planner can learn without a phone call: a price, when an answer comes, Saturday on the listing, and a form with room to describe the event. On September 29 I opened 27 of the sites again. No business is named here.

What a planner can learn without a phone call

How Omaha catering differs from the other reports

In the trades in the other reports, a customer calls about one job. Someone planning an event writes to several places the same evening and compares what comes back: a number per guest, a minimum, a day when someone will answer. So this report is about what a planner can read before anyone calls back.

Most places that come up for catering are not caterers. Restaurants, a bar with an event room, food trucks, board makers and a wedding hall share the searches with the catering companies.

It is also the first report where a blog carried casino posts under a caterer's name, and where a site builder's sample account shows as signed in on every page.

How this was checked

Searches: 20 Google Maps searches that count, on September 27, 2026, from the middle of the Omaha metro and four points around it, in the phrasings someone planning an event uses: catering service near me, catering service Omaha, best catering service Omaha, catering service prices Omaha, reviews, plus a metro wide search. They returned 311 listings in the metro, caterers and every kind of place that caters, and 245 of their websites answered.

Read again: on September 29 I opened 27 of those sites again by hand and by script, home page and inner pages, and compared the Google listing with what the site shows. They are the ones that come up most and the ones where the first reading found something odd, so they are not a random sample, and no share on this page stands for the whole metro. A few listings outside the 27 appear in the search lists with what the listing itself shows, such as no website.

Limits: one day of searches, five points and one metro wide search. A company that is not here may simply not have come up. Page speed was measured from Europe and is left out.
