Search Google Maps for hurricane shutters from Wichita and two places in three go to companies more than 100 miles away.

On September 28 I searched Google Maps for hurricane and storm shutters the way someone in Wichita would, from the middle of the metro and four points around it: 17 searches that count, 313 places, different listings. places belong to companies more than 100 miles away, of them in Florida. The plain Wichita search is the exception, and its first ten places are . On September 29 I opened 19 of the local sites again. No business is named here.

Place counts on this page cover all 313 places in the 17 counted searches. Everything about individual sites covers the 19 local sites I opened again on September 29: the ones that come up most and the ones where the first reading found something odd, so they are not a random sample. Wichita metro listings with hours are open on Saturday.

How shutters in Wichita differ from the other reports

In the other reports the places around a trade were held by neighbors, other trades that share a word with it. Here most places are held by the trade itself, only not from here: storm shutter companies in Florida, Texas and the Carolinas, a thousand miles and more away, fill the near me searches. From three points around Wichita, places for installation near me went to them.

The plain Wichita search behaves differently. All of its first 25 places are within 35 miles, and Google fills them with blinds and shutters stores, window installers and remodelers, the shutters that go inside the window. And the same repair near me search that returns only Florida and Texas from the south and west returns companies within 100 miles from the east.

It is also the first report where the questions come from another state. Every place name in the phrases Google suggests is in Florida.

What each fix costs against one of your jobs

No local site in this check prints a price for shutters of any kind. So the only number here is the one you type.

One of your jobs against each fix

  • Found on 16 of 17 sites read againNo starting price for the jobs you do most$150
  • Found on 14 of 19 sites read againSeen in 2 or fewer of the 17 searches$600
  • Found on 8 of 17 sites read againThe form or the email address on the page sends people wrong$250
  • Found on 5 of 19 sites read againThe site opens behind a browser warning$150
  • Found on 5 of 17 sites read againThe listing number is not on the site, or a button dials another$150

Nothing typed here leaves this page. The prices are the ones on the home page of this site, paid after the fix is live.

How this was checked

Searches: 17 Google Maps searches that count, on September 28, 2026, from the middle of the Wichita metro and four points around it, in the phrasings Google suggests. Together they returned 313 places and 135 different listings. 58 of the listings sit in the Wichita metro in trades close to this one, and 49 of their websites answered. The other 77 are outside the metro, most of them storm shutter companies in Florida and Texas.

Read again: on September 29 I opened 19 of those sites again by hand and by script, home page and inner pages, and compared the Google listing with what the site shows. They are the ones that come up most and the ones where the first reading found something odd, so they are not a random sample, and no share on this page stands for the whole metro. A few listings outside the 19 appear in the search lists with what the listing itself shows, such as no website.

Limits: one day of searches, five points and one metro wide search. A company that is not here may simply not have come up. Page speed was measured from Europe and is left out.

  • Google Maps results. Google Maps searches on September 28, 2026, from a point in the middle of the Wichita metro and four points around it, north, south, east and west, in the phrasings Google suggests for hurricane shutters: the cost, installation, how to install, near me, repair. 17 searches returned enough places to count, 313 places in all. Distances run from the listing's map pin to the middle of the metro.
  • Google business listings. Name, category, phone number, opening hours, reviews and the website field of all 135 listings the searches returned, read on September 28, 2026.
  • Websites, first reading. Every website field was followed on September 28, 2026. 49 sites answered and were read, the home page and up to six inner pages each.
  • Websites, read again. On September 29 I opened 19 of those sites again: certificates, call links, email links, forms, sample text. The 19 are the ones that come up most in the searches and the ones where the first reading found something odd. They are not a random sample, so no share on this page stands for the whole metro.
  • Printed prices. Prices read in context on the sites that print them, on September 29, and checked by hand.
  • Area codes. As assigned in the North American numbering plan: 316 is Wichita and south central Kansas. 800, 844, 855, 866, 877 and 888 are toll free. Most listings far from Wichita carry the code of their own state: 239, 305, 321, 407, 561, 727, 772, 813, 941 and 954 in Florida, 281, 409 and 956 in Texas.
  • What this check cannot see. Calls, jobs won, ad spend, and the quality of anyone's work. This page is about Google listings and websites only.
  • Words on the local sites. Phrases, forms and calculators found by script on the 49 local sites of this kind the run read on September 28, home page and up to six inner pages each. Checked by hand on the 19 read again.
  • Google suggestions. The suggestions Google gave on September 28 for hurricane shutters installation and its variants: 88 prompts, 55 different phrases, 85 appearances grouped by theme.
