Leaving Hibu: your website, domain and fees

A Hibu website runs month to month unless your order sets a minimum term. If you pay the design fee monthly, though, the term is 12 months, and leaving before then can cost $99 to $449 depending on the package. A domain Hibu provides is registered to Hibu, so you ask them to move it into your name. You cancel by phone, and saving your content before you do is up to you.

What's different about Hibu

Hibu is the one company here whose terms let a tracking number, if it sits on your site or Google listing, send your calls to other advertisers in your area once you stop paying. Before anything else, put your own number back everywhere a customer might see it.

Before you give notice

  1. Check your order for a minimum term and whether the design fee is paid monthly. That decides the early fee.
  2. Ask Hibu in writing to put the domain in your name before you cancel, because cancelling the package can take the domain with it.
  3. If the number on your site or listing is a Hibu tracking number, switch both to your own number first.
  4. Save your text and photos while you still have access to the site.

What to send Hibu

Hibu's terms count email as writing, and give team@hibu.com as their address. Send this before you call to cancel.

To: team@hibu.comSubject: Domain transfer and term dates for [business name]

Hello,

Please transfer the domain [yourdomain.com] into my name, as your Service Terms for Domains describe, and tell me what authorization you need from me.

Please also confirm whether my design fee is paid monthly, the date my 12-month term ends, and whether my website or Google listing uses a Hibu call tracking number.

Thank you,
[your name], [business name], [phone]

How Hibu compares

Leaving early: a fixed fee of $99 to $449, where 180 Sites charges half of what's left on a 24-month plan and Townsquare keeps the rest of the initial term due. The domain: registered to Hibu, where Scorpion, Topline Pro and Rebolt say it's yours. The site: ends with the service, as with most of the eight.

Have the move done
